We should all be dancin’

It’s spring, the sun is shining again and I suddenly couldn’t agree more with the (albeit very limited) lyrics of this song: “We should all be dancin’” (Ultra DJs – Dancin’). Instead I’m sitting inside behind my laptop, working… Read more

A Glimpse Ahead

A Glimpse AheadMicrosoft created a video montage envisioning the technology of tomorrow. Watch it and look for examples of how current prototypes may evolve in the years ahead: most of the items shown in this movie already exist nowadays, but the question is, when will they be used in everyday life? Augmented Reality

Augmented RealityGE’s Ecomagination website offers a pretty neat “Augmented Reality” advertisement gimmick in which what’s shown on your computer screen responds to how you’re holding a piece of paper in front of your webcam. Go ahead, print your own and enjoy your personal augmented reality experience as well! Note that you need a printer and webcam for this to work.

Check out the video clip below to get the idea: Read more

Mish Mash

Mish MashEvery Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. (CET) Studio Brussel airs the radio show Mish Mash, presented by Gunter Desamblanx (hence the trash talk). From behind the turntables Gerrit Kerremans brings us two hours of great techno, dance and electro mashups, delightfully blended into and easily digestible and refreshing mix of pure exhilaration (Gunther: “JA’ah!”). This is no mere chart song chaining!

For your enjoyment, there’s a playlist online, often along with parts of the show available for download (MP3). By now, you’re probably very curious what this all sounds like, right? To satisfy your hunger, check out the mix of Les Petits Pilous (44,3 MB), the megamix of Switch 12 (20,6 MB) or the minimix of Switch 13 (20,6 MB) by Jin Sonic. You’ll be coming back for more! The radio station can also be listened to live from the Studio Brussel website (“Luister Live” on top).

If you’re a Facebook junkie and you like the radio show, you might consider joining the Mish Mash Appreciation Society.

Paper Plane

Scala is a youth choir from Aarschot, Belgium, roughly sixty teenage girls, directed by two talented brothers, and enjoying national and international recognition.

From today on, their new album Paper Plane is entirely available to download for free (in MP3 format) from the official website. This is the first time a Belgian band releases a new album online for free. The lyrics to all songs can be found on the Kolacny website.

To give you an idea of what they are like: below is the video clip from Raintears, which is also on the album. The song is about holding on to memories of a lost loved one. Read more

Olympic Summer Games 2008

The Olympic Games 2008 in Beijing are already in progress since August 8th 2008 and will continue until August 24th 2008. As I enjoy watching other people doing sports a lot, I normally can’t even be stopped by the seemingly most boring kinds of sports. Just this time it’s different, because competitions take place during the prime viewing time in Beijing, which unfortunately is during the night here in Europe. Anyway, if you happen to have nineteen sleepness nights just now, you can spend those with watching all competitions online on the live streaming video portal of the European Broadcast Union (EBU), which delivers online Olympic images to audiences across Europe and beyond. The EBU video portal provides twelve live stream channels from the Olympic Games with Live Event Sound (needs to be opened with Internet Explorer).

If you still missed something be sure to check out the medal count on the official website of the Beijing Olympic Games 2008.

Update (August, 22nd): EBU video portal and medal count page now require authentication and are no longer available it seems.

Oh Laura

Lately I really like to listen to the music of the swedish band ‘Oh Laura‘.
The band members are Frida Öhrn (Vocals), Jocke Olovsson (Guitar), Jörgen Kjellgren (Guitar), Rikard Lidhamn (Bass) and Magnus Olsson (Drums) and that’s what Jörgen Kjellgren, founding member, guitarist and co-songwriter of Oh Laura says on their homepage about the band and their music:

“It’s all about Frida’s voice, really. It’s why we started and it’s why we keep going. And it’s most likely the reason why you’re here.”

Well, I agree, but I think it’s also about the lyrics.

You can listen to shortened versions of some of their songs on their homepage and some complete songs are available on their MySpace page.

And to start with you should watch and listen to (!) this movie of their song ‘Release me’, which was the first song I knew from them and which is still my favourite.
