Ever since Last.fm made the unfortunate decision to become a paid subscription service for all countries except in the US, UK and Germany, I’ve been on the lookout for a good alternative to get to some tunes from somewhere else and I’ve finally found exactly that!

CitySounds.fm lets you listen to the latest music from cities around the world. At the top are the most active cities and the list constantly changes as new music is being created. The music is being fetched from SoundCloud and the city photos are fetched from Flickr.

The music available through CitySounds.fm seems to be primarily dance music until now and I’m quite happy about that actually. Enjoy listening to the music!

Update (August, 22nd): There’s a new and improved version of CitySounds.fm online in which all cities now have their own page as well, you can register as a listener by tweeting a link to the city page and and cities within the same country are suggested to listen to. CitySounds.fm was already great and it just got better!

Tom and me went to Sweden for our summer vacation this year. To be more precise, we stayed in the house Getteras at the lake Getrasen in the region of Småland. The house was built in a really quiet surrounding; in the middle of a forest and right next to the lake. We did have neighbors, but their house was just barely visible in the distance on the other side of the lake. To reach the next inhabited house you would have to walk about one kilometer. To get to the next city (that barely deserves the name) means driving for 25 km… that’s where we spent two weeks in July and August.

The nature in this area of Sweden is dominated by forests and rocks, which are lying everywhere in every size you could imagine. Every now and then the tranquility of the forests is interrupted by planes with smaller trees, rocks, grass, moss and uprooted trees. You can see an example for this on the picture on the left.
